A Farm Quiet Book

Another little quiet book.  This one is about 6" square.  The patterns come from the Cricut cartridge "Animal Kingdom". I used fusible web to adhere the pieces and then hand embroidered around the raw edges.  I actually made two of these and used my sewing machine on the other . . . much faster!

Much loved by a precious 2-year-old.

A Numbers Quiet Book

It's fun to have a little one around again . . . we're working on numbers, so I threw together this little quiet book with prints from my stash.

I started with 7" squares for the pages and the 2 covers. I used fusible web to secure each object and number and used a really tight zig zag or satin stitch around the edges in a matching thread color.

The 8, 9, 10, and back cover pages shown above and below are sewn together.  With right sides of each page together, I stitched 1/4" around the 3 outside edges, leaving the binding edge open for turning and binding.  For example, the cover and page 1 make one page, so I placed page 1 on top of the cover, right sides together, and sewed them together, clipped the corners, then turned them inside out, making sure to poke the corners out to make a nice clean corner.  Pages 2 & 3 go together, 4 & 5 and so on.

Here's a great tutorial I used and I've based all of my soft books on this method.  However, I machine stitch the entire binding on in one fell swoop.

A "Color" Soft Book

I made several of these little color soft books based on this tutorial a few years ago for a charity event.  Thankfully, I saved one not knowing for sure if there would ever be another little one in our family.  It sat, undone, for all those years, but now it is done for Joe to enjoy.

It includes several pages, two of which are pictured below.  It includes the rainbow and then pink, brown, black and white.

The words were printed in reverse on iron-on transfer paper and then ironed onto a square before being stitched into a four-patch.

Now Joe can learn his colors . . . or at least have another tasty book to chew on.

The Little Turtle

The Little Turtle
a poem by Vachel Lindsay

 There was a little turtle.

He lived in a box.
He swam in a puddle.
He climbed on the rocks.

He snapped at a mosquito.
He snapped at a flea.
He snapped at a minnow.
And he snapped at me.

He caught the mosquito.
He caught the flea.

He caught the minnow.
But he didn't catch me.

Soft book created and quilted by me.
